Homeland

A collection of thoughts, memories, and experiences of the inhabited Earth.

Rendered as mute representations of places that are both everywhere and nowhere.

Homeland is an ongoing project that started in 2013 when I encountered an essay that argued that to call a place “home” inevitably involves changing, at times destroying and rebuilding the environment around us. All creatures have the instinct to find or create shelter. This idea of habitation led me to find images that point towards our presence on Earth as a neglectful landlord rather than a malevolent force. The portraits are witnesses to the same world but I have no idea what it looks like through their eyes. The image shows us a fragment but there remains a vast unknown beyond that which we can see. At times they serve as representations of myself, at others, they remind me that it’s nice to be someone else for a moment and recognize that we are not alone.
